---5.15.06---BOOK EXPO AMERICA
Adam will bw signing copies of his new picture books, TREE RING CIRCUS and FRANKENSTEIN MAKES A SAND- WICH, at Book Expo America in beautiful bureaucratic Washington, DC on Friday, May 19th. If you're an attendee, please come say hi at the Harcourt Booth on the Upper Level from 11 AM to 12. There may well be free posters.
Thanks to all who came out to see me at BEA. I had a great signing, thanks largely to the promotional efforts of my Editor Tamson Weston, and Marketing Director Steve Kasdin. There were not only free posters at the signing, but free stuffed monsters and the occasional free lunchbox. Frankenstein had such a good time he dressed up and everything (see left).
---4.10.06---SO MANY THINGS. MY GOODNESS.
ART OUT LOUD at the Society of Illustrators was a great success. Here are some pictures of the event, courtesy of Irene Gallo.
Clockwise from top left are participants Julie Bell, Jon Foster, Gregory Manchess, Boris Vallejo, Dan Dos Santos, and Adam. The four hours went by too fast.
Bidding has also begun on the Microvisions paintings created by the artists above and six others. All proceeds will benefit the Society of Illustrators' Student Scholarship Fund. Adam's contribution can be seen on the Misc. page. You can join the auction here.
Finally, Adam's new book TREE RING CIRCUS received a nice early mention on Jamie Driggers' blog. Check it out when you have a free moment.
---3.09.06---SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS STUDENT COMPETITION
Adam was proud to help judge this year's Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition last week. He was a beneficiary of this competititon as an undergrad, so it's sort of a Circle of Life thing, but with scholarships instead of baby lions.
UPDATE--Adam also recently helped judge Philadelphia's University of the Arts annual senior competition. My goodness, what a talented bunch that was.
---2.09.06---ART OUT LOUD TIX GOING FAST
Word has come that more than two thirds of the tickets to April's ART OUT LOUD event (see below) are already gone. Don't miss this opportunity to observe the techniques of Julie Bell, Dan Dos Santos, Jon Foster, Gregory Manchess, and Boris Vallejo. And also Adam.
---1.25.06---ART OUT LOUD
Adam will be one of six artists giving live demonstrations of his technique and process during ART OUT LOUD, an event at the Society of Illustrators in New York City on Saturday, April 8, from noon to 4 PM. Tickets are $20.00 for students and $25.00 for non-students. Visit The Society of Illustrators for more information and to reserve tickets. Space is limited, and this event filled up fast last year.
---1.17.06---3 New Books by Adam Rex in 2006
Adam has just finished two books that will be out in late Summer, with a third coming this Spring.
Tree Ring Circus, Adam's first book as both author and illustrator, has a release date of June 1st, 2006, so it should start showing up in stores in late May. Click on the link for pictures and purchase information. Tree Ring Circus is the story of a tree, the animals who come to live in it, and the elephant that ruins everything. Step right up for the Big Topple!
Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich, Adam's second authored and illustrated picture book, follows along in September. It contains over twenty poems detailing more than you ever wanted to know about the everyday troubles of monsters. You think you have problems? The Phantom of the Opera, now HE has problems. Boy, could we tell you some stories.
We're also proud to report that Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich will be a selection of the Junior Library Guild. Thanks, JLG!
Later in September comes Small Beauties: The Journey of Darcy Heart O'Hara, written by Elvira Woodruff, with illustrations by Adam. The year is 1845, and wherever she goes, Darcy recognizes the precious things around her. Her family will need Darcy's gift when they're forced from their home in Ireland and must start a new life in America.
All three books make excellent gifts for National Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19th.
---12.20.05---Robert's Snow Auction a Big Success
Adam was asked to be one of the many kid lit illustrators to contribute a hand-decorated snowflake ornament to the 2006 Robert's Snow Auction. The auction raised $100,120.91 this year for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/The Jimmy Fund. Visit Robert's Snow to see all the snowflakes. Adam's appears below.
